Long Heavy Lead Rope

I recommend using a long, heavy, cotton lead rope like this one:

A longer lead rope gives you an advantage if your horse should shy away from you or spook. By using your thigh or hip for leverage, you have a much better chance of holding him.

The extra thickness gives you a firmer grip.

If it is cotton, it won’t burn if it slips through your hands a little, and if your horse should get a leg over it, it won’t burn him.

A heavy rope has more stability, won’t flap in the wind, and gives the horse the definite knowledge that you’re there and have a hold on him.
